THE LEGENDS OF BLOOD BOWL, ISSUE NUL18:12

Who have impressed the most? Who is the best of the best? Who had the best season? Is there an owl here? Time for our special edition where we present the top 10 players of season NUL 18:12. That is, the top 10 of potential legendary material in this league. To become a legend you must be a leader in your team and you need to give the audience what it wants; blood, goals and a show worth remembering.

An honorable mention goes to our goblin friends, Dogob and Balldog. Thanks for a lot of entertaining moments. There are some worthy dwarves that could have made the list as well, especially Skurak, but he did not fulfill one of our criteria. Being part of the team from day 1.

#10, Value 150, SPP 24, 'Count Alec the Handful of Tacos'
2 MVP, 3 TD, 3 PASS, 3 RECEPTIONS, 4 KO, 1 CAS, 182 RUNNING
Count Alec is undoubtedly the star of his team with 28% of the teams total star points belonging to him. Twice as much as the second best player of Kauppaopiston Opet. As most vampires, he is a versatile player but unlike most he does not seem to be that violent. Or perhaps he just prefers the well known taste of blood from this own thralls, instead of opposition blood?

#9, Value 120, SPP 26, 'Rincewind'
1 MVP, 5 TD, 6 PASS, 3 RECEPTIONS, 296 RUNNING
Rincewind dropped off in efficiency at the end of the season. Perhaps it was all the running that tired him? But in total he has managed to create many worthwile moments thanks to his versatility and unique skillset. The highlight is probably the 3 passes in the 3rd day.

#8, Value 180, SPP 20, 'Hulk Hogre'
10 CAS, 2 KILLS
Hulk is a single minded and very uneven player but when he remembers his only order from the coach.  "Hit anything nearby". He is a fearsome player to meet on the field.

#7, Value 190, SPP 34, 'Rage Against The Sardine'
2 MVP, 8 TD, 3 RECEPTIONS, 6 KO, 470 RUNNING
Here is another player that is the centerpiece of his team, with 31% of the teams total star points belonging to him. He is also the second best goal maker and the best runner in the league. All in all, that makes him rank as number 7.

#6, Value 150, SPP 22, 'Sarge Pepper'
0 MVP, 5 TD, 5 PASS, 1 KO, 1 CAS, 414 RUNNING
One of the more interesting players in the league. Definitely the one with the most fans. Except the MVP award judges, of course. He appears on four of the top 10 charts and you never know what he will do with the ball. Run with it? Throw it? Ignore it and bash someone instead? He is the 3rd best runner in the league which is astonishing considering that he is actually rather slow. His best performances, though, are on stage. This player definitely fulfils the "give the audience a show they will never forget" criteria.

#5, Value 150, SPP 32, 'Sandalf the Wise'
3 MVP, 1 TD, 1 PASS, 11 KO, 10 CAS, 1 KILL, 14 RUNNING
Sandalf started a bit slow but it seems that the longer he plays, the better he becomes. Also a very important player for his team, which is shown by his 3 MVP awards. He specializes in hurting the opposition but can also do other things when needed.

#4, Value 140, SPP 26, 'Aeolus'
2 MVP, 1 TD, 1 PA, 2 RECEPTIONS, 1 INTERCEPT, 4 KO, 5 CAS, 2 KILL, 48 RUNNING
Aeolus was on fire in the early days of the league but slowed down in the middle. He is the only one to earn star points in every possible category. Also, he is the only one who has managed to hurt 4 players in the same match. The show value of killing and intercepting is high enough to earn him a 4th place.

#3, Value 140, SPP 38, 'Killy Turner'
2 MVP, 2 TD, 14 KO, 11 CAS, 2 KILL, 34 RUNNING
Killy Turner excels in a team full of fantastic players and easily earns a top 3 spot. He is the only player to earn star points in all matches he played. He is definitely a fearsome player with an average of 1 CAS per match, best of all, and 2 kills. If that was not enough, he has even managed to score twice with an agility of 1.

#2, Value 80, SPP 28, 'The Gutter'
1 MVP, 1 TD, 2 RECEPTIONS, 1 INTERCEPT, 1 KO, 9 CAS, 1 KILL, 20 RUNNING
The Gutter is certainly the biggest surprise of this season. No one expected a thrall to be one of the most dominating players. He does not seem to care who the opponent is. He is just doing whatever the team needs. Scoring, intercepting or killing but most often it is to hurt some opponents. He had a great streak in day 6 and day 7 where he managed a total of 6 cas and 1 touch down. All of this by a player that cost only 80k gold. That is surely a dream for all coaches and worthy of a second place.

#1, Value 160, SPP 43, 'Edmund Emmenthaler'
1 MVP, 9 TD, 9 PA, 7 RECEPTIONS, 0 KO, 1 CAS, 312 RUNNING
Edmund is the clear winner on this list. Both on statistics, importance for his team and showmanship. He as earned most star points of all, has made the most goals, is second in passes, 6th best runner, 4th longest thrower and the second best receiver. He is the single most valuable player for his team with a total of 34% of his team's star points belonging to him. No one runs faster than Edmund and with an unmatched agility and ability to simply just leap over his opponent this is a player that will continue to amaze the audience. Oh, and did we mention his first match ever? He scored 4 times, something which no one else has managed. In fact, not even an entire team managed to score as much as 4 times in the same match.

I will join for next season. Thats certain.

Almost certain that I will return to an old team.

The high elfs underperformed for me, did not get any doubles or stat increases and they are a bit boring, in my mind at least.

But who knows, perhaps I will take them anyway. My old team's seems to be quite damaged...

THE LEGENDS OF BLOOD BOWL, ISSUE NUL18:11

The player groans in pain, the apothecary shakes his head and can't do anything while the coach starts to read the job wanted ads to find the replacement. Or, maybe not? After a total of 66 matches played, 26 players have got a permanent damage but only 13 of them have been fired. What is the secret to be able to continue to play with a broken neck, smashed ankle or broken collarbone?

Well, sometimes the injury simply doesn't matter. Who needs extra agility or speed if your job is to stand next to another guy, at the front line? Some reduced armor for a chaos dwarf? Well it hardly matters if you have armor 8 or 9 with such a thick skull.

But the finest example of the right damage at the right time surely was showed by OKWF today. An Ogre with a broken neck? No problem, 0 agility is not allowed due to laws of physics. A snotling with reduced strength? Not possible, would break the same law. That is professional wrestling. Serious injuries, but ready to play again in no time.

#13, Value 150, 'Sandalf the wise' is the fourth player to be recognized as an emerging star. He did it by severely hurting two opponents in today's match. With that he helped the boots to secure a play-off ticket and was naturally awarded the most valuable player award for his team.

#39, Value 120, 'Mean mr. Mustard' seems to be a late achiever. For 9 matches he did nothing, except getting a rather suspicious mvp award in day 4, there were whispers of bribes, nothing could be proven of course. But in the last two days he has managed to hurt an opponent in such ingenious ways that he was a clear winner of a double mvp award. Taking him to 3 in total. He is only the second player to manage that.

#4, Value 170, 'Looking Glass Knight' is a true work horse, steadily producing for her team (we assume it is a she, a he would not admire themselves in mirrors so much). In the last match, she shifted gear and managed to produce one touchdown, one pass and 2 casualties. Making her the fifth player to be officially recognized as an emerging star.

#20, Value 140, 'Killy Turner' continues to impress. With his second kill this season, a poor rookie elf thrower, he managed to reach 11 casualties in 11 days. With that, he has been able to gain some SPP in every match he has played. But he is even more unusual than that. He is also a saurus, with agility 1, that have managed to make not one but two touch downs this season. That is the mark of a future legendary player.

THE LEGENDS OF BLOOD BOWL, ISSUE NUL18:10

A legend* has left us. Terry Pratchett was a wizard**. Although he never interrupted a blood bowl match, he has influenced them. Here in NUL, for example, we have the Discworld*** Allstars. Let's hope this team will play for a long time to continue reminding us.

Back to normal business, celebrating our hard working players.

#19, Value 140, 'Killy Turner' is the second player to officially be recognized as an emerging star. This day was a normal day at work for him. That is, he hurt two players so much that they had to leave the field. With an average of one badly hurt opponent each match day he has now reached 10 CAS and is the single most brutal player. Surpassing even tough guys like Hulk Hogre and The Gutter.

#62, Value 100, 'Samuel Vimes' decided that today was a good day to step into the center of attention. Which means he stepped in between a thrower and catcher and promptly made sure the ball was handled by his team instead of the opponents.

#1, Value 190, 'Rage Against the Sardine' had a bit of slow start but not any longer. After scoring 8 touch downs (shared #1) he has emerged as a coming star. He also shares the number #1 spot as best runner. Not that surprising when he has twice as much legs as other players.

#22, Value 140, 'Aeolus' can now claim to be the most flexible player in the league. With his touch down today he completed the list of possible ways to earn star player points. He has scored, hurt opponents, passed the ball, killed, intercepted the ball and of course been celebrated as the most valued player in a match.

#63, Value 90, For a long time the editors debated if we should mention this player. He routinely gets ejected by the refereeĀ“s due to foul play by using secret weapons. But he is the strongest player in the league and always causes fascinating moments for the audience due to his somewhat erratic play style. Today he managed to destroy the elf los all by himself, twice. Causing a total of 3 casualties. We are of course talking about the aptly named 'Balldog'.

* 85 million books sold, in 37 languages, it does not get much more legendary than that.
** Not the fireball throwing one, but a word wizard. I bought his first disc world book in 1989 and have never stopped being astonished. Bought the last one the same day he left us. Have them all.
*** Apparently the concept of a world disc on four elephants on a giant turtle has been inspired by hindu mythology.

The board of the OKWF are on the fringe to hand in the liquidation form, but CEO Gnaarkill are working tiredlessly to convince the board to go for another season. After 9 straight losses, 20 touchdowns against and only 1 for, this will be a hard task for Gnaarkill to achieve. Time and skill will tell if the OKWF will be ready to go for the next season or not.
The negotiations starts right after the last match for the season has been played.

Hakos, time for the final match day!

I can play Thursday and Friday evening, as well as probably most of the weekend as it looks right now (except Sunday evening). How does your calendar look?

Thursday is a no-go. Otherwise your times work fine for me. How about saturday afternoon, 14 or 15? Not looking forward to meeting your casuality specialist team, especially not after being out cas'ed by goblins.

Last match of the day is played.

The goblins were on fire, casualty wise. In turn 1 3 elfs were removed from the field. In turn 3, 3 elfs were removed from the field. A total of 4 elfs were badly hurt, one permanently. The fanatic, balldog, had the best day ever, scoring 3 of these damages.

Apart from that, it was not Luiggi's day today, for several reasons. A masterful elf kick made it possible for the elfs to score in turn 2. Even with reduced numbers the elfs could press the goblins into risky plays and all 4 goblin rerolls were used up by turn 6. And by then the elfs could retrieve the ball and score 2-0 in turn 8.

At this Point Luiggi gave up and the second half were played in record speed with almost no thinking whatsoever, from neither side. At least I got one more td so the match ended 3-0.

Newspaper summary of day 10 will arrive later today

Thanks for the match Luiggi, Always fascinating to play against goblin.

Oh boy, stupid me, I'm visiting the UK this weekend so I won't be able to play at all this week. The sooner I can make it is next Monday at 12.00 or 22.00.

I will be able to play on monday. 12.00 should work fine, I hope. Otherwise 22.00 should also work. So, let's aim for 12 and keep 22 in reserve.

@all: "The Legends of NUL", day 9 is out. Thank you everyone for the positive comments. It is quite fun to write and I'm very happy that you also seem to like it.

@Luiggi: I can play almost any time this weekend if I just get a couple hours of heads up time. In the next week, monday and tuesday evening after 18:00 should work well. After that I can probably not play until next saturday.
EDIT: On monday I can most likely start already at 16, so that would be a really good day for me

THE LEGENDS OF BLOOD BOWL, ISSUE NUL18:9

How many of you know Heelsworth? Heelsworth, you say, who is he? But the correct question should be: who was he? This week the normal reporting machinery broke down and we had to rely on old fashioned hard work to be able to dig out all the interesting facts we know you hunger for. So, it is quite understandable if you missed Heelsworth. He was a new lineman, preparing for several years and finally got to play his first match today, and you can probably guess in which team by his name. We wonder; are the players recruited because their name fits the theme or due to their qualities? Anyway, he was new, and he was killed in his first match, by an angry rat ogre. That was his 5 minutes of fame.

#6, Value 160, 'Edmund Emmenthaler' is officially our first emerging star. After a well deserved rest he is back in his normal fantastic form. One touch down and one pass is a passable result after an injury. Apart from being the most experienced player he is also the number one thrower in the league.

#75, Value 90, From the biggest star to a player that might have had his breakout day today. 'Karaz' the dwarf was the best pain giver today with 3 well placed punches, probably in the lower body parts of his opponent's.

#31, Value 120, And since we like pain so much we should definitely mention 'Jared Bloodrick'. After today he can call himself veteran. A veteran killer, that is, since he managed his second kill this season.

#19, Value 140, Another expert in the bloody art is 'Charlie Cheddar'. He has only hurt 3 players so far but with his hard hitting mighty claws we predict a blood red bright future for him. The only thing that might slow him down a bit is the fact that he also broke his neck this match. But who needs to be agile if you just aim to hurt? Given his devotion to give it all for his team it should not be surprising that he was named as the most valued player of his team, for the third time. What a way to become a veteran.

#43, Value 110, Normally we would not mention 'Hurricane' here since he was not part of the original rooster at the start of the season. But it is hard to argue when he is the best receiver in the league. 9 catches is what you could expect from an expert catcher at this point of time, but he didn't score his first touch down until today which meant he has stayed out of the spotlight. Today he was also named the most valued player of his team. This might be the start of something big.

I like the 1 week tempo. Sometimes it is slightly longer, which is ok, since some days are very fast instead. Perhaps we could be more flexible when we have big holidays? And I do consider "sportlov" as a big holiday...

Perhaps we could have a 1 week soft deadline and 2 week hard deadline? Meaning that we aim for 1 week and longer times should only be exceptions. While after 2 weeks the MD is just forwarded, regardless of how many matches that are left.

Anyway, I'm flexible but tend to lean towards 1 week MD's.
