NUL Season 8 will soon be finished, so it's time to get cracking with the preparations for SEASON 9.
PRELIMINARY TIMETABLE FOR SEASON 9
- Season 8 should be finished November 26th.
- ALL WANTING TO PLAY SEASON 9 SHOULD SIGN-UP IN THIS THREAD BY NOVEMBER 30TH!
- League structure will be decided during week 48 by the December 2nd.
- League will be played with normal 1 match week per 1 real-time week pace.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR NEW COACHES:
1: Create an account on this forum. Note that due to high activity from spam-bots, admins have to approve your account before you can post here. This shouldn't take longer than a day.
2: Post a reply in this thread that you want to join.
3: Read the "Essential rules" section HERE (http://norscaleague.com/index.php?topic=65.0) and post a reply in that thread that you have understood the rules.
4: The admin team will add you on the participant list in this post.
And as per last season, we will have to see how many participants we will be before deciding how to construct the season. These will be the basic guidelines:
- New coaches will naturally start with fresh teams.
- Old and ancient coaches may use their "old" Valhalla or Ulls (season 4 or earlier) teams, fish-seasoned (seasons 5 through 8) teams or fresh teams.
- Depending on the ratio of new/old teams, there may be Team Value (TV) limit for old teams.
- If there are lots of new teams, they will be divided into league/division of their own so that they won't get trampled by the veteran teams.
CONFIRMED PARTICIPANTS FOR THE NEXT SEASON
Here's a list of confirmed participants/teams from the previous sign-up thread:
- J-Reedy - old/new team, maybe old
- Kvasilad - Old team preferred
- The Golden Arrow - new team, underworld
- Barmution - new team, chaos dwarf
- Gnaarkill - new team, underworld/skaven/?
- Lars - old team, Chaotic Dudes
- Hakos - old/new team
- Luiggi - old/new team, new team maybe Ogre
- Mr. B - old team, Drop Dead Gorgeous
- YOU and YOUR TEAM HERE!
Ok, I really want to play with a new underworld team.
I'm in with Orkitis or a new Ogre team, depending on what fits the league best.
Note that I'll be away from the country between the 30th November and the 10th December, so in case that delays the league or whatever, feel free to drop me and I'll play S10.
I think I'll go with a fresh Chaos Dorrrf team next season. Yes, yes... I know it's not a recipe for being loved, but I still want to ;)
-Barm
I'm leaning mostly towards struggling on with my woodies, unless they're ripped to pieces today :)
If I win the final in S8, I'd guess I go one more round with the Khemri.
Else unknown at the writing moment.
/B
Seems like many wants to start fresh teams. And so do i :).
Im not totally sure what i want to play yet though. Maybe underworld but since Golden also wants to play a underworld team, maybe i go for Skaven or gobbos :)
Time will tell what i choose ::)
/Gnaarkill
I'm in.
I the time table is kept I will have to play the first match from China but after that I should be home in Sweden again. I.e. will be home from december 11th.
Depending on the league structure I can either play Getingarna or a new team.
For the new teams I have narrowed it down to 4 candidates. Necromantics, Dark Elfs, Nurgle, Pro Elfs in approximately that order of interest. Which one it will be depends on what the rest of the coaches want to play.
/Hakos
I updated the participant list a bit. Any word on Gurgeh? Looks like he's the only one from S8 who hasn't said anything about S9 yet.
As we seem to have quite an even split between old/new teams, how about the following idea?
- 2 divisions, one with old teams and the other one with new teams. Divisions only play against teams within their divisions.
- All the old teams are guaranteed a spot in the playoffs. Regular season only decides the seedings for the playoffs.
- After regular season new teams play wild-card round(s) based on regular season standings. This wildcard round decides which new new teams go into playoffs.
- After wild-card round rookie teams play against veteran teams in 1st round of playoffs.
Opinions on that ideas / any other ideas are welcomed.
I can't shake the feeling that I really really would like to try out Khorne, but I guess that would mean a full season of straight losses while learning how to not cause turnovers constantly :D
The structure looks good to me, I'm thinking of maybe taking Disorganized Dudes out for a new spin if that's the season 9 format.
Hmm, I have these thoughts about the suggestion above.
2 Groups battling it out..
5 teams / group.
One have new feeders and one old feeders.
Lets say they are Group N(ew) and group O(ld).
First they get each 4 games each meaning 4 weeks of play.
Wild-card to play-off?
My suggestion: as we need 8 teams of minimum for a Cup, I recommend everyone but the last once get through to the Cup.
Meaning N#5 and O#5 missed the Cup.
Then we could go:
N4 vs O1
N3 vs O2
N2 vs O3
N1 vs O4
And yet four games for newbee team are not that much.
But it's always hard to mix new and old teams.
/B
I would at least say that it is important that a couple of teams do not qualify for the cup. If everyone qualifies for the cup, I'd say skip the cup altogether, because the season is more or less pointless. I'd even say that if it's possible to arrange it so that we just play season -> semis -> final with the few teams we have now (<= 10), we should do that. For example winner of division 1 meets runner-up of division 2 and so on. I am painfully aware that that would have meant I wouldn't have qualified this season, but that's ok. Qualifying for the cup should mean something in my opinion.
Having two divisions is the only way to mix old and new teams I guess, and 4 games can mean a lot of TV with some luck. Or almost nothing if you're playing easily killed woodies :P
Is there any way to set it up so that everyone plays the others in the division twice before the play-offs like in an NFL season? That would've been ideal, it seems to me.
+1'ing kvasi's entire post.
Also, is it possible to have a group with an odd number of teams? If so great, but I thought I heard somewhere that only even numbers are allowed.
-Barm
Jupp, even numbers is the shit.
And yes, it's possible to go twice vs each other in the league.
/B
I can't play this upcoming season 9 >:(, but I would definately want to participate season 10! I would appreciate if you sent an email when it's time for season 10, just as you did for the upcoming season 9.
Cheers!
In case you can't get even numbers for season 9, I might be able to participate, or I could ask my brother.

Good stuff! But you didn't answer the question of whether it is possible to arrange a cup with only semis->final instead of quarters->semis->finals.

hehe, well that depends how many that shall come to the cup...
8 players means Quarter->Semi->Final... 4 players then we start in the Semi directly etc..

I have talked to Gurgeh and he said he had too many RL things to handle to be able to play once a week. He still seemed interested in joining season 10.

As to the question on division structure, we shouldn't be too stuck on the idea of playing the two divisions within the same league in the Cyanide's client. We could play the rookie and veteran divisions in separate leagues within the client (for example Valhalla Cup and Feeder). Then the playoffs could be played in a separate league. The league structure could be for example the following:
- 4 or 6 veteran teams play regular season in League A. After regular season 3 of the teams go into play-offs and are moved into League C in the client.
- 4 or 6 rookie teams play regular season in league B. After regular season 4 teams play playoffs. The winner of the playoffs is moved into League C.
- League C plays playoffs, semis + final.
Thus only one rookie team would have a chance of winning the championships. 4/6 in team numbers could be the ideal split in evening the amount of games played between rookies/veterans. Example:
- 4 veterans, 6 rookies: veterans play twice against each team = 6 matches. Rookies play once each other = 5 matches + 2 playoff matches for winner = 7 matches for winner.
- 6 veterans, 4 rookies: veterans play once each other = 5 matches. Rookies play twice each team = 6 matches + 2 playoff matches for winner = 7 matches for winner.
ADD-ON: Just to clarify, only the winner of the league C would be considered NUL Champion. Leagues A & B would only be considered elimination phases of the championship.
Good to have several options on the table here. I guess the biggest problem right now is that we are 9 coaches. Time for a new recruiting drive perhaps? :)
Im good with anything structure-wise but Reedy's idea was great! I like the fact that rookie teams have to fight extra hard to get to the finals. But as kvasilad said, the bad thing right now is that we are only 9 coaches. I will try to convince a buddy, hope he takes the bait 8)
/Gnaarkill
Alright, two leagues 9 players....
Can we have one coach who actually play in both leagues?
That player can of course only use ONE of the teams to join the Cup.
But it could mean that we can start the season 9 more or less now.
I cannot do this due to time, so do we have a voulentier? ;D
BR
/B
I think I might be able to do that. I don't have that many free nights before christmas though so it depends on how flexible people will be. If anyone else want to do it I'll step aside.
Yeah, I think one coach playing in both leagues is the best idea if Gnaarkill (or somebody else) doesn't manage to lure anybody in. I think could do the two-teamer time-wise, but I'm not especially interested in getting more deeper into BB right now - one match a week is a nice pace for me. So I'll add myself as a final back-up: if anybody else doesn't want to take the duty, I can step in. But just in that case, so Golden is currently sitting as the appointed two-team coach.
Alright then,
Ulls Pasture will be the initial start for rookie teams.
Feeder Camp will be the group for the team that knows the deal so to speak.
Then we use Vallhalla Cup to decide overall Champ.
And we can only use even numbers.. 4 or 6 etc.. in each "Cup"

Sign on to Feeder with fish as password.
And may the numbers be with us!
Cheers!

Neat! Will the Feeder league be automatically emptied at some point, or is everyone already in there responsible for leaving?

OK, so could everybody now confirm if they'll take a new or old team. To my understanding totally confirmed entries are as follows, please correct me if I'm wrong:
OLD teams:
Mr. B with Drop Dead Gorgeous
Golden with Sweet Sweet Decay
Kvasilad with Disorganized Dudes
NEW teams:
Golden with ? (underworld)
Gnaarkill with ?
As I truly have no preference, I'll play either new team (probably dolfins) or old team (Whistlers/Kittens) depending on how other players choose new/old teams. So I'll join the league which will have odd numbers after everybody has confirmed their team.
Oh, as to Kvasi's question about emptying the feeder, I'm guessing everybody can take out their own teams and admins can kick out the slow ones if nescessary. Mr B. will probably correct this if I'm guessing wrong.
Kvasilad with Disorganized Dudes (old, 1800-ish TV)
That is correct JR,
Ull's is cleansed however... welcome to join.
I'll added more places for teams in Feeder, but when we know what and what then we clean up feeder's so teams playing S9 will be in the scope so to speak.
Cheers!
/B
If I play both leagues I will continue with my nurgle in Feeder as well.
I will stay in the Feeder Camp with the caotic dudes
/Lars
OLD teams (Feeder):
Mr. B with Drop Dead Gorgeous
Golden with Sweet Sweet Decay
Kvasilad with Disorganized Dudes
Larsman with Chaotic Dudes
NEW teams (Ull's Pasture):
Golden with Warpstone Plumbers (nether-regions)
Gnaarkill with Warpstone Maniaks (mousemen)
Barmution with Mad Science Fair (unorganized midgets)
Hakos with ? (wolves playing with bones)
Whoops, sorry for being on the slow side with keeping updated here. Will apply to Ull's with my new Chaos Dorfs tonight!
-Barmy
My first choice would be to play with a new necromantic team. I.e. sign up this for now.
If J-Reedy is keen on playing the Whistlers, my second choice would be a new Dark Elfs team, to avoid having two necro teams.
If another old team is needed, my third choice would be Getingarna.
Just out of curiosity, what happens if Golden meets himself?

Golden can't meet himself. If he qualifies with both of his teams (he both wins the rookie division and is top 3 in veteran division), he must choose which team he'll take into playoffs. So if Golden wins with his rookie team but decides to play with his veteran team, the second finalist in the rookie division gets the playoffs spot. If he goes with his rookie team, the runner-up of the veteran division moves one spot up.

I can start whenever, but it would be better to start after the 10th since I'm travelling back to sweden from china on december 10th and can therefore play on more normal times...
/hakos
Sorry for being slow on replying guys!
I've talked to my buddy, but unfortunatly he didnt take the bait to join the great game of blood bowl. Have to indoctrinate him a little more and maybe he'll join in the future 8)
After the 10th of December is OK for me. I can start anytime. I will join Ull with a fresh Skaven team, "Warpstone Maniaks"! ;D
/Gnaarkill
Hmm, maybe I should pick something else to avoid having two chaos teams... buuuut, looking at the other teams, it's not that tempting to play a half-developed wood elf team :D
Opa Gangnam Style
is ready for the fight
but no one is letting them in
since they do not know the secret word

Warpstoned Maniaks signing in! ;D
Thanks Golden, have applied now
Heh, sorry for not showing up and thanks for remembering me, J.
I'll be ready to apply on Dec 10th or 11st with a brand new Ogre team (name TBA, I still have to decide it), but I can also retake Orkitis if it fits the league better.
See you in a few days.

It's up to you mate, take which ever team you're more interested in playing.
All right! All the teams have signed on, although the rookie dark elf team Finned Marine Mammals are still waiting approval from the Ull's Pasture admins. Here are the leagues and teams:
Ull's Pasture:
Opa Gangnam Style - Hakos - Necromantics
Warpstone Plumbers - The Golden Arrow - Underworld
Warpstone Maniaks - Gnaarkill - Skaven
Mad Science Fair - Barmution - Chaos Dwarfs
Ogracadabra - Luiggi - Ogre
Finned Marine Mammals - J-Reedy - Dark Elfs
These teams will play once against each other, four teams will advance onto playoffs. The winner of the two rounds of playoffs will advance onto the championship playoffs.
Feeder Camp:
Chaotic dudes - Lasseman - Chaos
Disorganized Dudes - Kvasilad - chaos
Sweet Sweet Decay - The Golden Arrow - Nurgle
Drop Dead Gorgeous - Bantha - Khemri
These teams will play twice against each other. Three top teams will advance onto the championships playoffs with the one team from Ull's Pasture. Top ranked team after the regular season will play the team from Ull's Pasture.
The board for the Season 9 has been created. Matchups will follow later when the leagues have been setup in-game.
Wow, that 1 rookie team vs the 3 veterans is going to be an inducement fest :D Yet again, winning Ull's Pasture alone is an achievemenet so... whoever gets there, I hope the underdog from Ull's Pasture kick your Feeder asses :P
Agreed, Luiggi!
Imagine how awesome it would be if Golden's Underworld or your Ogres won the whole shebang ;D
Unlikely, but you never know. Thanks for the support though 8) You need sick luck to pull-off anything with "fun" races like ogres, goblins and such. But the thing is that none of that matters when you can use snotlings as artillery and 2+ dodge your way to gangfouls... :P
Well guys!
Lets Get ROCKING! ;D
